THREE SCHOLARSHIPS OPEN TO STUDENTS NATIONWIDE

PLUS, ONE SCHOLARSHIP (NEW MEDIA FOR CHILDREN) DESIGNATED FOR PITTSBURGH-AREA STUDENTS

Who may apply?

The scholarship is open ONLY to graduate students (Masters or Ph.D.) of accredited colleges or universities. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment — through coursework or experience — to any combination of at least two of the following fields:

  • early childhood education
  • child development/child psychology
  • film/television production
  • music
  • animation
  • production of cross-platform entertainment

Applicant must have the ultimate goal of working in children’s media.

Applicants may apply for support in one of the four following areas:

  • Research on the relationship between children’s use of media and learning or children’s use of media and personal growth.
     
  • Development of program concepts or extended development of creative elements of an existing concept: e.g. design of puppets, scripts, storyboards, characters, music, etc.
     
  • Development of a new media for children concept or project related to: mobile application, web based project, interactive/ toys, immersive experience, physical installation, etc.
     
  • Pittsburgh-area college students only: Development of a new media for children concept or project related to: mobile application, web based project, interactive/ toys, immersive experience, physical installation, etc

Requirements

Entrants must download an application form and submit a proposed detailed plan (including project goals/milestones) and budget of how the scholarship funds will be used. Two letters of recommendation are required - either from faculty members from two of the referenced fields and/or professionals from the children's media industry with whom you have worked. Recipients must be enrolled during the period in which the scholarship is awarded and the semester following when the funds are disbursed. All scholarships will be awarded through the applicable student's financial aid office or registrar. For students on a semester calendar, half of the award will be disbursed at the beginning of the semester following the granting of the award, and the second half at the beginning of the second semester. Students on the quarter system will receive their disbursements in three payments.

How are successful Mister Rogers Memorial Scholarship applicants selected?

Applications are evaluated by a committee formed yearly by the two governors representing the Television Academy’s Children’s Programming Peer Group.
